Growing Up Was Not What I Expected
No one told us that adulthood isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about pretending you do. When we were younger, growing up looked very different. It seemed like freedom - late-night drives, buying whatever you wanted, having your own space, making your own rules. No one mentioned the quiet parts. The quiet after a long day when you get home and everything slows down—laptop closing, conversations ending, notifications stopping… and it’s just you and your thoughts in a rented room that doesn’t quite feel like home yet. Growing up appeared glamorous from the outside. But no one told us it would also mean reheating leftover food at 11:30 PM because you were too tired to cook, or staring at the ceiling, wondering if you’re doing life right.
